"Unless I am convicted by Scripture and plain reason---I do not accept the authority of popes and councils, for they have contradicted each other---my conscience is captive to the Word of God. I cannot and will not recant anything, for to go against conscience is neither right nor safe. Here I stand, I cannot do otherwise. God help me. Amen."

Was Jesus a Friend of Sinners - Part 2

Posted in Jesus a Friend of Sinners? at 11:01 am by TruthofmyKing

There is but one angle in which I can accept that Jesus is a friend of sinners.  That is when a man comes  to the knowledge of his sin.  He says to himself, I am a vile, filthy man, worthy of death and nothing else.  He has come to the realization that he has sinned against a Holy God who will most certainly judge him on that faithful day when the Lord will thourougly purge His floor.

At that very moment, when the man’s heart is broken and he sees no escape from the fury of God, he will then find a good friend, yes, even his only friend.  That is Jesus.

He saves him, He changes him, He loves him, and He disciplines him, all these things He does because that was His intent all along.

But to say that Jesus hangs out and befriends the proud, the lawless, the sinners who have no remorse and sin is their very nature, is something I can have no part of, nor can I understand how any regenerated man can come to that conclusion.
